Send CAD Files
Send CAD Files With Full Integrity
DWG, DXF, STEP, IGES, RVT and every other CAD format delivered bit-for-bit identical. Up to 200 GB per transfer, no subscription.
CAD files demand more than consumer file sharing
CAD work produces files that are both larger and more structurally sensitive than people who don't work with them tend to realise. A native Revit model for a mid-sized commercial project can exceed 500 MB on its own, and routinely sits inside a project folder of 30 GB or more with xrefs, linked drawings, family libraries and supporting documents. Multi-discipline coordination packages between architects, structural engineers and MEP consultants push that into 100 GB territory.
These files cannot tolerate modification in transit. A single byte change in a binary CAD file can break references, corrupt geometry or render a model unopenable. General-purpose file sharing tools were not designed with this in mind. Email caps at 25 MB. WeTransfer's free tier handles individual drawings but not project folders. Cloud storage services work better but often require the recipient to set up an account and navigate a shared folder structure.
Built for the file sizes and integrity CAD work demands
TransferRocket transfers files bit-for-bit identical to the original. DWG, DXF, STEP, IGES, JT, STL, SKP, RVT, IFC, OBJ and every other CAD format arrive exactly as you sent them. Layer information, embedded blocks, project metadata, xref structures and file relationships are preserved without modification.
Transfers up to 200 GB cover full project packages in a single delivery. Customer-managed encryption (SSE-C) is available for confidential designs, competition entries and engineering work under strict IP protection. Storage region selection meets client data residency requirements on a per-transfer basis, which matters for cross-jurisdictional project work.
Pay-per-use pricing means engineers, architects and CAD-heavy practices pay when they actually deliver project work, not every month between milestones. For closely related workflows, see our pages on file transfer for architects and file transfer for engineers.
Why TransferRocket is built for CAD

- Full coordination packages, multi-discipline BIM models and large 3D rendering archives fit in a single delivery.
- Bit-for-bit file integrity
- DWG, DXF, STEP, IGES, RVT and other CAD/BIM formats arrive exactly as uploaded with all metadata intact.
- Customer-managed encryption (SSE-C)
- Bring your own encryption key for confidential designs, competition entries and IP-sensitive engineering work.
- Storage region per transfer
- Meet client data residency requirements for international projects or GDPR-bound work.
- Password protection on every transfer
- Free on every transfer. Standard practice for confidential client and consortium work.
- Pay-per-use pricing
- Pay when you deliver, not on a fixed monthly schedule.
Sending a project package to a consultant
You've just wrapped a design milestone and need to send the structural engineer the latest architectural Revit model plus all updated drawings and coordination references. Total package: around 55 GB across the model, xrefs, drawing PDFs and a markup document.
You package the folder, drag it into TransferRocket, set a 60-day storage duration to cover the structural engineer's analysis window, choose an EU storage region, enable password protection and enter their email. The upload runs in the background while you move on to the next deliverable.
The engineer receives a secure link. They preview the drawing PDFs in the browser to confirm the scope, enter the password and download the full package. You see exactly when they access the transfer. Files automatically delete after 60 days. You pay once for the delivery, with no subscription bill between project milestones.
Frequently asked questions
- What CAD formats does TransferRocket support?
- All of them. DWG, DXF, STEP, IGES, JT, STL, SKP, RVT, IFC, OBJ, FBX and every other CAD or 3D format transfer bit-for-bit identical. Layer information, xref structures, materials and embedded metadata are preserved exactly as you uploaded them.
- Can I send an entire project folder with linked references?
- Yes. Package the project folder including all xrefs, linked drawings and supporting documents as a ZIP and send it as a single transfer. Transfers up to 200 GB cover even large multi-discipline coordination packages.
- Will my drawing layers and metadata be preserved?
- Yes. Files are transferred bit-for-bit identical to the original. Every layer, embedded block, xref, material assignment and piece of metadata arrives exactly as you sent it.
- Can clients preview drawings in the browser?
- PDF exports preview directly in the browser, useful for sharing dimensioned drawings for review. Native CAD formats don't preview in browsers, so clients download the file to view it in their CAD software, but they can confirm the file list before downloading.
- Is the transfer secure enough for confidential designs?
- Yes. Files are encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256). Password protection is free on every transfer. For projects requiring the strictest privacy, customer-managed encryption (SSE-C) lets you provide your own key.
- Do I need a subscription?
- No. Pay only for transfers larger than 5 GB. Better economics than subscription services for engineers and architects delivering project work on milestones.
